As devices will be regularly taken home by pupils and staff, having the right insurance cover is an important element of every programme and we strongly recommend that you make sure that it is included in your budget. Of course you may feel that the cost of insurance is such that you prefer to take the risk yourself.
Generally, insurance companies covering this type of programme will offer cover against accidental damage and theft. Insurers will require you to apply a few common sense rules like providing an approved case. Their quote will also be based on average claims. If your school experiences a larger number of claims the premiums may increase in subsequent years, you may even find that you cannot get insurance at all. To avoid this it is important that you are very clear in the ‘Home School Agreement’ about where the responsibility for looking after the device lies and the penalties of repeated claims.
