Understanding Direct Debits

Direct DebitMore than half of all UK bill payers now pay by Direct Debit because it has so many advantages. So what exactly is Direct Debit? It’s a simple way to pay regular and occasional bills and it’s all done automatically, so you don’t have to worry. Not only is it convenient for you, it’s also really simple and safe.

You can set up a Direct Debit to your school’s programme very simply using either the online form (see below) that the school will talk to you about, or, perhaps, a paper form which the school will give you. On the form you will enter the amount you wish to donate and the date you would like the payment to be collected from your bank or building society. Once that’s done, the money is deducted regularly. But don’t worry – we can only take the amount you’ve agreed to and for the length of time you stipulate, and if you need to change the amount or the date of collection, you just need to contact us.

If your account is a joint account with your partner then both of you may need to sign the form and you won’t be able to complete an online form if two signatories are required. Please do check with us or your bank for more advice on this.

If you wish to change any of the bank details then you will need to notify us in writing or by email. The banks require us to have your written authority before they will allow us to make the change.

Online Direct Debit forms

Some schools using our service have taken advantage of our online Direct Debit form. This is a special form that we set up specifically for the school and they will put a link to it on their website. We encourage you to use this option if it is available because it reduces the risk of potential errors and is much quicker too.

The Direct Debit Guarantee

If an error is made by the Learning Foundation, or your Bank or Building Society, then you are guaranteed a full and immediate refund from your branch of the amount paid. Direct Debit refunds can only be made by the bank, we are not empowered to make them to avoid any risk of duplication.

You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by writing to your Bank or Building Society.
